Anyone who was around during the Circle days knows what a mind fuck this is. Since I am so bad at explaining it I am going to use Altimit's old description:
-Warning-
this topic involves concepts that are known to induce:
headaches
nausea
the glazing over of eyes
and quoting keanu saying "whoa"
Multiple Personality Solipsism. Go ahead, search the net, you won't find anything about that topic. I mean explicit search. (putting those three words in quotes on google) It's a very interesting and idealistic-ish branching from solipsism. So let's start there. The metaphysical one, not the other one which implies that second hand knowledge cannot be known to be 100% true and thus only first hand experience is of any real value.
(Metaphysical) Solipsism: the self is the whole of reality.
note: this is an unfalsifiable philosophy.
There, did it sink in? I'll use the matrix for reference since it's a common point that most of us know and can be used to explain this odd concept. So imagine you're plugged into the matrix right, and everything you can see, feel and touch is really just a computer program. A dream. Sensation is really just electrical impulses interpreted by your brain after all. Now, let's imagine for a second, that instead of millions of people being connected in this...video game shall we say, there is really only one person. Instead of playing multi-player, you're really in a single-player game. Everything around you is just an illusion, people are really just programs that act like people. Now let's move one step further, instead of this being some cruel computer game that you got put into, let's imagine that you're...god. The creator of the universe, and you just forgot how to make it work. So everything around you is a hallucination that you can't control anymore. That's as close as I can get with analogies and weird stories. Only the self exists. Everything else, is really yourself, you just forgot.
OK, on to the fun part of this topic. Multiple Personality Solipsism. In normal solipsism, other people are simply part of the imagination. But build on that idea. If they're within your own mind, and they appear to have ideas, thoughts and personalities separate and hidden from your own, then logically, you have arrived at having multiple personalities. So going further, they are you, and are thus just as godly and awesome and responsible for the creation of the universe. So going further still, a solipsist would say that their death would be the death of the universe, but a MPS would say that simply their personality would die. And thus you arrive at a practical, normal world view. Which differs ever so slightly with common thought on two points. I and thou art god (paraphrased, name that book!), and you saw reality, solipsist say subconscious. Potato, patato.
Blarg: me being old, tired, cranky, rambling and thus terminating all thought in favor of an unintelligible sound.
Blarg!
